Hospitals' Top 10 Health IT Investment Plans for 2014

It's no secret hospitals and health systems are increasingly investing in health IT tools and resources.

Here are the top 10 investment plans for hospitals using electronic health records, according to a report from EHR comparison resource Software Advice. Respondents indicated how, if at all, their investment levels would change for each area. The following are areas in which respondents indicated their investment level would increase.

1. Patient portal: 35 percent

2. Electronic health record: 27 percent

3. E-prescribing: 26 percent

4. Lab integration: 26 percent

5. Health information exchange: 26 percent

6. Medical billing: 25 percent

7. Patient scheduling: 24 percent

8. Business intelligence: 19 percent

9. Picture archiving system: 15 percent

10. Radiology information system: 14 percent
