Hospitals that achieve hardship exceptions will receive 2019 payment adjustments based on the 2017 EHR reporting period.
Under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, Congress mandates CMS should apply payment adjustments to Medicare eligible professionals and eligible hospitals that are not meaningful users of certified EHR technology under the Medicare EHR Incentive Program.
To be considered for an exception, eligible professionals and eligible hospitals must provide proof demonstrating meaningful use would result in significant hardship. Approved exceptions are valid for one payment year.
