HITPC Calls on Providers to Share MU Successes, Challenges

The Health IT Policy Committee's meaningful use workgroup will host two virtual listening sessions where providers will be able to share stories about their progress toward meaningful use attestation and the challenges they're facing.

The input received at the sessions will be used to help craft the HITPC's recommendations for meaningful use stage 3. Eligible hospitals and providers are invited to attend the May 20 session; accountable care organizations, payers, electronic health record vendors and other stakeholders are invited to the May 27 session.

"We are looking to you to share your experiences in developing, adopting and meaningfully using your EHRs," wrote the ONC in a blog post. "Sharing these experiences — with a focus on solutions that can be leveraged in the progression to stage 3 — will help all of us achieve our goals, while optimizing possible stage 3 requirements."

These listening sessions come in the wake of growing opposition to rigid meaningful use requirements. Many industry organizations, including the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives and the American Medical Association, have called on CMS and ONC to provide more flexibility in meaningful use requirements.
