HHS To Send HIPAA Pre-Audit Surveys

HHS' Office for Civil Rights has issued a notice of information collection request in the Federal Register regarding HIPAA pre-audit surveys.

The OCR HIPAA pre-audit surveys will be sent to approximately 800 covered entities and 400 business associates of covered entities after the comment period on the notice has ended and once the OCR receives approval from the Office of Management and Budget to send the surveys. The comment period ends June 11.

The purpose of the pre-audit surveys is to gather information to determine the sustainability of the HIPAA audit program. The surveys will gather a variety of information from respondents, including information about the number of patient visits to healthcare organizations, use of electronic information and business locations, according to the notice.
