The new data sets include additional information from the Regional Extension Centers on the adoption of electronic health record systems released by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology. The ONC also announced the winners of contests, such as the Apps4TotsHealth Challenge, launched earlier this year, which encouraged the development of innovative tools that utilize health data.
The data sets also include county-level data on Medicare spending and utilization as well as selected data on hospital outpatient charges.
HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said the administration is committed to making the health system more transparent and will aim at harnessing data to empower consumers.
