Thomas Keane, MD, has been appointed assistant secretary for technology policy and the ninth national coordinator for health information technology at the Department of Health and Human Services.
This role, according to Politico, is responsible for drafting regulations for EHRs and helps shape the department’s data, technology and AI strategies.
Dr. Keane, according to HHS’ website, previously served within the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy and was a senior advisor to the deputy secretary of HHS. He’s also a radiologist with a software development and engineering background.
