HHS created Early Innovator grants to boost simpler, consumer-oriented and cost-effective IT systems for individuals and businesses looking to sign up for health insurance plans. All states, including Early Innovators recipients, will also be eligible for funding that will support ongoing exchange implementation.
The states receiving grants are Kansas, Maryland, New York, Oklahoma, Oregon, Wisconsin and several New England states. Most states will use the grants to build on existing IT infrastructures, such as those used for state Medicaid programs.
