On Dec. 24, 2013, HSO discovered that patient information from 2004 to 2013 had been unprotected and available to unauthorized individuals searching the Internet. HSO immediately secured the information so that it can only be accessed by qualified HSO staff, according to the news release.
The unprotected files contained patients’ dates of birth, Social Security numbers, credit card numbers and some healthcare information, according to the news release.
HSO is advising patients who called HSO’s accounting staff from 2004 to 2013 to examine their financial information, such as credit card accounts, for unusual or unauthorized activity.
