Through the Virtuwell clinic, nurse practitioners are able to prescribe medication for common, acute conditions such as colds or allergies. Patients pay $45 (covered by some insurance plans) to answer online questions about their condition and receive a message from a nurse with a treatment plan and any necessary prescriptions, according to the report.
The service is now available in six states: Virginia, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota and Michigan, according to the report. The clinic’s expansion to more areas has been limited because of the need to receive approval from each state’s medical licensing board, according to the report.
