Health Level 7 names Patricia Van Dyke chair-elect

Health Level 7, an international health IT standards organization, named Moda Health's Patricia Van Dyke, RN, as the next chairman of its board.

Ms. Van Dyke, currently the directors of electronic data interchange, privacy, information security and standards for Portland, Ore.-based insurer] Moda Health and HL7 standards liaison to Delta Dental Plans Association, will serve as the chair-elect for 2015 and become the chair for 2016 to 2017. She will replace Doug Fridsma, MD, the CEO of the American Medical Informatics Association and former chief science officer and director of the ONC. Dr. Fridsma was elected in fall 2014 but had to resign early in 2015 because of his new role as CEO of AMIA, according to a press release.

Ms. Van Dyke has held several leadership roles in HL7, including co-chair for the HL7 Electronic Health Records Work Group since 2008 and co-chair for the Structure and Semantic Design Steering Division of the HL7 Technical Steering Committee. She has also served on the HL7's board of directors since 2013, according to the news release. Her new position will last four years.

"HL7 International is a wonderful organization with energetic and passionate members," Ms. Van Dyke said in the news release. "I have thoroughly enjoyed my work at HL7 and am honored to have the opportunity to serve as the chair-elect."
