Health IT tip of the day: Don't think of analytics as a "journey"

Using metaphors to help visualize progress in the health IT world may sometimes hinder it.

Keith Eggert, executive vice president and general manager of healthcare for data analytics company VisiQuate in Santa Rosa, Calif.: A lot of consultants and vendors will tell you that analytics is a 'journey.' That's one of the scariest words in English, because it means "we don’t really know when we'll get there." The real solution is to view analytics as a trip to the gym, where you meet a trainer, get a personalized routine, and start seeing results.
