The development of an enterprise imaging strategy, and subsequent inclusion of all relevant clinical imaging in a single, longitudinal view within the patient’s EHR, provides us an opportunity to truly improve care coordination and impact outcomes. However, thoughtful consideration and planning is critical to ensure the enabling technologies and workflow processes complement clinician workflow and do not create unintended frustrations. Involving image producing physicians and other clinicians intimately in the planning and implementation of the strategy will ensure a successful program that enhances the value of the EHR and increases caregiver satisfaction.
