Health Information Exchange of New York adds University of Vermont Medical Center

Burlington-based University of Vermont Medical Center has joined the Health Information Exchange of New York, or Hixny. The partnership will allow for access to secure EMRs across state lines.

Authorized UVM Medical Center staff may now view progress notes, EKG tracings and other data from providers in New York. Additionally, the medical center will add its data to the Hixny system.

Around 6 percent of UVM Medical Center patient visits involved patients from New York in fiscal year 2016, ended Oct. 1. Also, several New York-based hospitals are affiliated with the UVM Medical Center through the University of Vermont Health Network, including Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh, N.Y., and Elizabethtown (N.Y.) Community Hospital.
