COOLIEF, a minimally invasive outpatient treatment, treats chronic pain by targeting the sensory nerves causing pain with cooled radiofrequency energy. Water is circulated through the device while heating nervous tissue, creating an area larger than conventional radiofrequency treatments without excessive heating, according to a news release.

“COOLIEF’s ability to target and treat chronic pain in a minimally invasive way was recognized by Novation-served hospital representatives at the Novation Innovative Technology Expo as an improvement in the treatment of chronic pain,” said Olya Carter, RN, senior clinical manager at Novation, in the news release. “We are pleased to offer the members we serve COOLIEF’s cooled radio frequency energy as a means of treating patients with chronic pain.”

Halyard Health, based in Alpharetta, Ga., and formerly known as Kimberly-Clark Health Care, is a global medical technology company focused on preventing infection, treating pain and speeding recovery.
