Hackensack Medical Center links Epic EHR to automated pharmacy

Hackensack (N.J.) University Medical Center has linked its automated dispensing pharmacy cabinet system and EHR system.

Nurses can view the contents of the automated pharmacy cabinets, produced by Mountain View, Calif.-based Omnicell, in the hospital's Epic EHR system. The integration was led by hospital executives in nursing informatics and pharmacy management to reduce the time nurses spend on dispensing medication, according to a news release.

"Everything we do is to ensure the patient receives the highest quality care by providing clinicians with the right information at the right time in the right format and in the right location to make the right decision," said Shafiq Rab, MD, vice president and CIO of HackensackUMC, in a news release. "Enabling the interoperability between Omnicell and Epic is essential to our mission."
