Google Cloud to train 40 million to ease tech talent gaps

Google is launching Google Cloud Skills Boost, an online training platform, with the goal of training more than 40 million people worldwide.

Companies are facing massive tech talent shortages. In September, U.S. employers posted 295,034 unfilled IT positions. In 2020, 161,000 out of 5.6 million tech workers described themselves as self-employed, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Three things to know:

  1. Google Cloud Skills Boost will offer online training, skills development and certification. It will provide more than 700 labs, role-based courses and certification resources.

  2. Google Cloud Skills Boost features its most in-demand training, including content on machine learning and cloud architecture. Users will be able to personalize their learning paths, track their progress and earn Google Cloud skill badges.

  3. Users who sign up for the program by Nov. 6 will get their first month free. After the first month, users will pay $50 monthly.
