Mr. Zavery will serve as Google Cloud’s vice president of engineering and will oversee the tech giant’s Apigee division. Google acquired Apigee, an application programming interface management provider, in 2016.
With more than 20 years of experience working at Oracle, Mr. Zavery most recently led design and creation of the company’s cloud application development tools. At Google, he will focus on similar efforts, helping the tech giant add to its cloud’s tool portfolio.
Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian, also a former Oracle executive, last month said the company plans to elevate its cloud strategy and compete “more aggressively” with Amazon and Microsoft.
