Former CMS CIO joins health data interoperability company 

Tony Trenkle, the former CIO of CMS who oversaw the agency’s EHR incentive program, joined the advisory board of healthcare data interoperability company Onyx Technology, the company said Nov. 23.

Mr. Trenkle brings more than 20 years of leadership experience to his role at Onyx. He left CMS in November 2013 and has since served as chief health information officer for IBM Global Healthcare, now sitting on the company’s advisory board. 

Onyx emerged from work with CMS in the country’s first Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources-based application programming interface, Blue Button 2.0. The company also has worked with Microsoft to build a platform for healthcare data exchange.
