Facebook to sponsor free digital skills training for 3k in Michigan

Facebook will join forces with Grand Circus, a Detroit-based education firm focused on computer coding, to sponsor free training programs across Michigan, the Detroit Free Press reports.

The program will host training programs — including social media, marketing and other digital skills — at sites across the state, beginning this summer. Officials said the admissions process will be competitive, but organizers hope to train 3,000 Michigan residents during the next two years.

"The overall objective is to give people the skills they'll need to thrive in the global, digital economy," Grand Circus CEO Damien Rocchi told the Detroit Free Press.

As part of a separate program, Facebook will sponsor 25 students in one of Grand Circus' 10-week coding boot camps, which typically cost $8,500 per student. The boot camp will include training initiatives for Facebook-specific programming, according to the Detroit Free Press.
