Estes Park Medical Center connects to Colorado’s HIE

Estes Park (Colo.) Medical Center has successfully connected its EHR to the Colorado Regional Health Information Organization, becoming the first independent critical access hospital on the statewide health information exchange.

Being a small, rural critical access hospital, EPMC often transfers patients to larger hospitals that require more specialized care, said EPMC CIO and vice president of information services Gary Hall. “Use of the CORHIO system helps reduce the need to send information about the transferred patients by more primitive methods — such as paper, faxing and email — and helps expedite patient care,” he said.
