Epic petitions court to protect confidential documents; Cerner named among World's Most Innovative companies; athenahealth acquires Patient IO — 6 health IT key notes

Here are six recent news updates on key health IT companies.

1. Verona, Wis.-based Epic Systems started giving excess food from its cafeteria to food pantries in Dane County, Wis.

2. Cerner and 3M Health Information Systems signed an agreement to integrate the 3M Patient-focused Episodes Software with Cerner's HealtheIntent population health management platform.

3. Epic Systems filed a petition in equity April 6 against the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City seeking to bar the health system from disclosing certain documents Epic seeks to declare as confidential.

4. Forbes ranked Kansas City, Mo.-based Cerner No. 37 on its list of "The World's Most Innovative Companies."

5. Watertown, Mass.-based athenahealth acquired Filament Labs, which is doing business as Patient IO, an Austin, Texas-based care coordination platform.
