The explosion was caused by an arc flash, which is when a strong electrical current travels through a conductor and misses its destination. The employees burned in the arc flash were taken to a trauma center for care.
The Google search engine and Google Maps experienced outages Aug. 9. However, Google has said these outages were unrelated to the arc flash at the Council Bluffs data center.
