Vanderbilt University Medical Center experienced an EHR outage of approximately four hours, a spokesperson for the Nashville, Tenn.-based health system confirmed to Becker’s.
The outage, which was not tied to a cyberattack or ransomware event, caused Vanderbilt University Hospital to temporarily go on diversion. The disruption occurred from about 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. CT.
“The remainder of our facilities continued to operate as normal,” the Vanderbilt University Medical Center spokesperson said. “As the issue began to be resolved, VUH returned to normal operations.”
IT professionals are continuing to investigate, but the believed cause is related to a system software update.
