Pittsburgh-based UPMC completed the second wave of its Epic EHR rollout this month, bringing 15 hospitals and hundreds of ambulatory practices onto the platform.

“This past weekend marked the transition for our Pittsburgh region and most of Southwestern Pennsylvania,” Chris Carmody, UPMC’s CIO, told Becker’s in an emailed statement. “We’re looking forward to the advancements this change will bring, creating a more coordinated healthcare experience across UPMC, no matter where patients receive care.”

UPMC announced in 2023 plans to consolidate nine EHRs onto Epic by mid-2026. The health system previously used Oracle Cerner for inpatient care and Epic for ambulatory care as its core EHR platforms.

UPMC has more than 40 hospitals and 800 doctors’ offices and outpatient centers.
