For the March 6 poll, MGMA asked approximately 1,300 medical practice leaders about their organization’s required time period for closing patient files after an encounter.
Thirty percent of respondents said their time requirement is within 24 hours, and 29 percent said within 48 hours. Additionally, 20 percent said within 72 hours, 14 percent indicated “other” and 7 percent said they are not tracking a timeframe, according to MGMA.
