Taken together, the possible subsidies equal more than $400 million from the health system. The affiliated physicians are also eligible for federal funds for EHR adoption, which could be as much as $44,000 per physician over five years, according to the report. Physicians who install electronic systems will be reimbursed for 50 percent of the installation; physicians who share data will be reimbursed for up to 85 percent.
Industry analysts say that the North Shore-Long Island program is one of the largest programs by health systems across the nation to promote the use of digital health records, according to the report. Digital records improve the ability of providers to share health information and coordinate patient care.
