Mercy Hospital St. Louis earned Stage 7 on the eight-stage HIMSS Analytics EMR Adoption Model, which measures the degree to which a hospital or health system uses its EMR functions. Five percent of U.S. hospitals have reached Stage 7, which represents the highest designation.

Mercy Hospital St. Louis officials largely credited the achievement to their work with data analytics. For example, hospital officials created an alert system to evaluate a patient’s risk of acquiring Clostridium difficile and established a data-driven inventory management system that integrates with its EMR.

“With intelligence in the hands of leaders and caregivers, Mercy is saving millions in some of our highest cost areas,” said Gil Hoffman, senior vice president and CIO of Mercy Hospital St. Louis.”
