Buffalo, N.Y.-based Kaleida Health launched a systemwide Epic EHR platform May 30, consolidating 13 legacy EHRs into a single, unified system across all its facilities.
The transition gives clinicians real-time access to patient data and ranks among the largest digital investments in the system’s history. Kaleida Health began the project in late 2024 and has around 200 employees focused primarily on Epic full time.
“This new system represents a transformational step forward for our organization and the communities we serve,” said Courtney Starnes, CIO of Kaleida Health, a five-hospital system. Ms. Starnes said consolidating patient information into one connected platform equips care teams to deliver safer, faster and more coordinated care.
The move will ensure Kaleida is competitive for talent acquisition in the future. Many clinicians are trained at hospitals with Epic and the health system sees having Epic as a “recruitment advantage” in the region. Several hospitals announced plans to make the Epic transition after New York Gov. Kathy Hochul released plans to invest $2.6 billion into modernizing EHRs at safety net hospitals last year.
