The American Joint Replacement Registry became the first registry to accept patient data through Epic’s Community Registries framework, allowing participating hospitals to automate the submission of joint replacement data.

Carbondale-based Southern Illinois Healthcare is the first health system to use the integration to submit data directly from its Epic EHR to the registry, according to an Oct. 1 news release.

Epic’s Community Registries automatically gathers data required by the registry from hospital medical records. Depending on what a hospital records, the data can include details about surgery, patient recovery and patient-reported outcomes.

The integration is designed to reduce manual work associated with registry submissions and support more complete and timely data collection. Participating sites can use registry data to benchmark outcomes and support quality improvement efforts and patient care.

The American Joint Replacement Registry is the cornerstone of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Registry Program.
