Waukon, Iowa-based Veterans Memorial Hospital plans to go live with Epic on June 14.
The 25-bed critical access hospital has been transitioning to the new EHR for the past year, according to a June 9 Instagram post. The hospital said patients may initially experience some delays at hospitals and clinics as staff get used to the new system, but long-term benefits will include better care coordination, increased patient safety and improved recruitment of medical professionals.
“Epic will change how patients access their health information through MyChart,” Veterans Memorial Hospital CEO Michael Coyle told the Waukon Standard for a June 4 story. “It allows access to test results, scheduling, secure messaging with caregivers, screening reminders, virtual visits, prescription management, timely payments, and so much more. Epic truly allows the patient to take control of their healthcare.”
Iowa City, Iowa-based University of Iowa Health Care sponsored the hospital’s Epic switch, something the health system does once a year, the Standard reported.
