The House appropriations committee earmarked $1.1 billion for the EHR contract in fiscal 2020, plus $161.8 million for program management and $334.7 million for infrastructure support. The fiscal 2019 enacted appropriation was $1.1 billion total.
The VA signed on to a 10-year contract with Cerner in 2018 to implement the same EHR as the Defense Department, which began rolling out the system in 2017. The DOD implementation hit a few road bumps, delaying a full implementation to this year.
