Under the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT wants to develop a more integrated environment where the government can pull electronic health data as needed and send data to state and local governments as well as clinical settings on the front lines of health emergency response efforts.
Passed in 2016, the 21st Century Cures Act required the creation of a common set of data standards for sharing health information; TEFCA aims to build on this framework and close the gaps in the public health data system for monitoring disease outbreaks, according to the report.
