Early adopters are not deploying these tools in isolation. Instead, a pattern is emerging: Organizations are testing multiple Epic AI capabilities across clinical and operational workflows, signaling a shift from discrete pilots to broader experimentation within the EHR.
Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health became one of the first health systems to go live with Epic’s Emmie, an AI chatbot designed to answer patients’ health questions within the context of their medical records.
Charlotte, N.C.-based Advocate Health has been using Epic’s Agent Factory, which creates and monitors agentic AI tools that can reason, make decisions and act within workflows.
Baton Rouge, La.-based FMOL Health adopted Epic’s AI scribe after determining the tool was accurate and cost-effective, and working with the vendor to make improvements. The application listens to patient encounters through Epic’s Haiku app and generates a clinical note for providers to review in the EHR.
Tampa (Fla.) General Hospital is among the first to test Epic’s conversational AI tool, Ask Art. The tool allows clinicians to ask questions about a patient, such as medications, lab trends or clinical history, and receive synthesized responses with links back to the underlying documentation in the EHR.
For CIOs, the early wave of Epic AI deployments points to a broader shift in how health systems may approach EHR strategy, as new capabilities are embedded directly into clinical workflows rather than layered on as external tools.
