Tanner comprises five hospitals, almost 40 physician practices, three urgent care clinics and four emergency departments, all of which are now using Epic. Prior to the Nov. 3 go live, the health system’s facilities used three different EHR systems.
To support the EHR implementation, Tanner assembled a team of more than 100 IT and healthcare professionals, supported by Epic, to train and prepare more than 3,400 Tanner staff members on how to use the new EHR. Overall, the EpicFocus project took the health system 14 months to complete.
“Our Epic implementation is the largest and most transformative change in our history,” said Loy Howard, president and CEO of Tanner, according to the news release emailed to Becker’s Hospital Review. “Our team members have risen to the challenge. Almost all have undergone hours of preparation and training, whether to provide input early on to make the system work its best for Tanner or to train on how to use the system — all the while caring for our patients.”
In addition to the new EHR, Tanner patients also have access to Epic’s online patient portal MyChart. The platform allows patients to view their health information such as medications and lab results as well as message their providers, among other functions.
