An agency of the Department of Justice, BOP comprises 97 institution sites throughout the U.S. The agency is responsible for the custody and care of an estimated 219,000 inmates.

BOP is seeking vendors to provide information about EHRs and clinical decision-making systems, including capabilities such as nursing care center documentation, allied health services, patient accounting and management and ambulatory care. Vendors should also be aware that construction materials like concrete and rebar may limit EHR deployments, according to the RFI.

BOP also requests information on the hardware, software, configurations and vendors involved with EHR systems. Some priorities the agency is looking for in an EHR include the ability to import data from an inmate management system, automate the synchronization of information on new inmates and create unique identifiers for inmates.

RFI responses will be accepted until Nov. 22.
