Marshfield (Wis.) Clinic Health System said it responded quickly after a cyberattack on its health plan’s pharmacy benefit manager.
Security Health Plan uses MedImpact, which was reportedly hacked by Russian-based ransomware group Qilin.
“As soon as we were alerted of the issue, we took immediate steps and proactively implemented a plan to protect members and patients,” a Security Health Plan spokesperson told Becker’s on Oct. 31. “Our No. 1 priority is to ensure members and patients have confidence that their private information is protected, and that there is minimal disruption to their care.”
MedImpact, which serves over 20 million members, confirmed the ransomware attack Oct. 27, saying that pharmacy claims for all clients were adjudicating. “MedImpact is currently working to restore impacted systems in a new environment that is segregated from the prior infrastructure and protected by multiple layers of defense,” the firm stated. “The company apologizes for any disruption this issue may cause its clients and partners.”
