CMS planned to conduct the testing to give a select group of providers the opportunity to test ICD-10 with Medicare Administrative Contractors and the Common Electronic Data Interchange contractor. Additional opportunities for end-to-end testing will be available in 2015, according to the agency.
Last week, CMS announced the new date for the ICD-10 transition — which was originally scheduled to take place this October — will be Oct. 1, 2015. The announcement ended the uncertainty following the passage in early April of legislation that stated HHS could not compel providers to switch to ICD-10 before Oct. 1, 2015, but gave no exact transition date.
