Minneapolis-based Children’s Minnesota will launch Epic across its hospitals, clinics and specialty care sites Oct. 3, following an investment of more than $175 million.
The new EHR will replace multiple systems, consolidating clinical, scheduling, registration, billing and operational workflows into a single platform, according to an Oct. 2 news release shared with Becker’s. The health system said the transition is intended to reduce data silos, duplicate data entry and fragmented user experiences.
The transition also brings easier virtual visits for common conditions, symptom-checking tools for families and ambient AI to help clinicians spend less time writing notes.
“Our move to Epic will make it easier for patients and families to navigate their healthcare needs and stay connected with our kid experts,” Emily Chapman, MD, president and CEO of Children’s Minnesota said in the news release. “This transformation is also crucial as we move to the next generation of pediatric care, including precision medicine and new therapies for complex health conditions.”
The implementation has been led by clinical and operational teams, with hundreds of staff participating in work groups, operational summits, training, testing and readiness activities ahead of the launch, according to the news release.
