Adventist Health has gone live on Epic across 27 hospitals and more than 440 clinics in California, Oregon and Hawaii, completing the largest technology implementation in the health system’s history.
The transition began Aug. 30 and moves the Roseville, Calif.-based health system onto a single electronic health record, according to a news release Adventist Health shared with Becker’s.
The new platform brings together patient information that had previously been spread across separate systems and gives patients a single MyChart account for care across Adventist Health.
“This is, at its heart, about people and technology in service of them,” President and CEO Kerry L. Heinrich said in the news release. “When a patient’s full story lives in one place, we can care for them more safely and with deeper compassion. And when the technology handles the busywork, we give our clinicians and staff back what matters most, time to be fully present with the people they serve.”
The rollout also introduces AI-assisted tools designed to reduce clinical documentation and administrative work. Adventist Health said the technology is intended to support, rather than replace, clinician decision-making, with humans remaining involved in the process.
Epic is also being integrated with Apple devices at the point of care. Clinicians can use iPhones, iPads and Apple Watches with Epic’s mobile applications for tasks including charting, medication administration and receiving real-time alerts.
“Bringing 27 hospitals and more than 440 clinics onto one platform reflects years of disciplined work by thousands of people,” Jennifer Stemmler, chief information officer of Adventist Health, said in the news release. “And this is a foundation, not a finish line.”
Ms. Stemmler said the connected record will serve as a foundation for additional work around AI-assisted documentation and more personalized, connected patient experiences.
