Epic is rolling out a suite of new tools aimed at bringing generative AI into clinical workflows, improving EHR usability for nurses and making it easier for patients to schedule appointments through conversational text messaging.

Here’s a look at some of the EHR vendor’s latest developments, as reported by Becker’s:

  • Generative AI: Epic has introduced Launchpad, a program designed to help health systems implement generative AI-assisted workflows. The initiative connects participating organizations with Epic experts to collaboratively develop and deploy AI use cases across clinical and operational domains.

  • Nurse efficiency: In conjunction with National Nurses Week, Epic unveiled Nursing SmartUser, a virtual educational series focused on improving EHR usability and satisfaction among nurses. The initiative includes four one-hour courses aimed at helping nurses better leverage Epic tools to save time and reduce workflow friction.

  • Appointment scheduling: Epic has launched a new feature enabling patients to schedule appointments via conversational text messaging. The tool, powered by an AI assistant, allows patients to book visits without logging into a portal or waiting on hold.

  • Glucose data integration: Epic and medical device company Abbott have partnered to integrate data from Abbott’s Libre continuous glucose monitoring systems directly into Epic’s software. Through the agreement, providers can access patients’ glucose data from LibreView accounts within Epic’s Aura platform, helping to support real-time, data-informed care.
