Epic Systems has launched a new feature allowing patients to schedule appointments through conversational SMS with the help of an AI assistant, the company announced May 5 on LinkedIn.

The tool eliminates the need for patients to log in to a portal or wait on hold, allowing them to book appointments simply by texting with an AI-powered scheduling assistant.

Epic said some health systems have already begun adopting the technology and are rolling it out to patients. The company did not name the early adopters but noted the feature is actively being used.

At the Becker's 11th Annual IT + Revenue Cycle Conference: The Future of AI & Digital Health, taking place September 14–17 in Chicago, healthcare executives and digital leaders from across the country will come together to explore how AI, interoperability, cybersecurity, and revenue cycle innovation are transforming care delivery, strengthening financial performance, and driving the next era of digital health.
