Health systems have been moving their EHRs to the cloud in recent years to better manage their data.
Here are six things to know about two of those migrations, according to a July 8 Amazon blog post:
1. Boston-based Tufts Medicine became the first health system to fully move its Epic EHR to Amazon Web Services.
2. The three-hospital system’s transition took 14 months.
3. Tufts “consolidated technology stacks, modernized applications, and delivered improved services for both patients and care providers.”
4. Memphis, Tenn.-based Baptist Memorial Health Care worked with consulting firm Optimum Healthcare IT to move its Epic EHR to Amazon’s cloud.
5. The 22-hospital system aimed to “address limitations with their on-premises data center, including scalability issues and high maintenance costs.”
6. Results for Baptist Memorial included a 20% improvement in system performance, lower total cost of ownership, and better disaster recovery capabilities.
