EHR adoption in Minnesota clinics increases by 31% from 2010 to 2016

Adoption of EHRs in Minnesota-based ambulatory clinics has increased three-fold from 2010 to 2016, according to the Minnesota Clinics e-Health Report, 2016, published by the Minnesota Department of Health.

Here is the progression of EHR adoption in Minnesota ambulatory clinics from 2010 to 2016:

•    2010 — 67 percent
•    2011 — 72 percent
•    2012 — 79 percent
•    2013 — 87 percent
•    2014 — 93 percent
•    2015 — 97 percent
•    2016 — 98 percent

The 98 percent Minnesota clinics that have implemented EHRs represent 1,257 clinics in 2016. Of these clinics, 74 percent are entirely paperless and 25 percent maintain paper charts but rely on the EHR for the most accurate information.
