The study broke a group of Swedish adults classified as risky drinkers into two groups. One group was told to motivate themselves to drink less. The other group was given access to a digital tool that sent them a messageevery Sunday asking them to assess their drinking.

The second group saw a near 25 percent decrease in drinking, according to the report.

Researchers are now working on developing the tool into a mobile application available for the general public.
