Greenville, N.C.-based ECU Health has entered into an agreement to sell its home health and hospice business unit to Liberty Home Care and Hospice, pending approval from the North Carolina attorney general’s office.
The transaction would include all ECU Health home health and hospice operations: home health offices in Greenville, Windsor, Washington and Kenansville; hospice offices in Greenville, Ahoskie and Kenansville; and the Service League of Greenville Hospice House, according to a March 5 news release from the health system.
ECU Health said the decision is intended to preserve long-term access to essential in-home and end-of-life care across Eastern North Carolina. The Service League of Greenville, would continue to play a role in supporting the region through its hospice house.
Liberty Home Care and Hospice operates facilities in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. Both organizations said they are coordinating to ensure continuity of care and a smooth transition for staff, patients and referral partners.
An ECU Health spokesperson told Becker’s the system is “committed to supporting all impacted team members during this transition period,” with some employees expected to join Liberty and others offered roles within ECU Health.
