The webinar, called “The Cure for Your Healthcare Document Processing Ailments: A Dose of Brainware Distiller,” points out paper-based workflows require human assistance, which can have many hidden costs and inefficiencies. On the other hand, automated workflows, such as data capture solutions, can free up healthcare employee time while also increase processing of certain healthcare documents, such as claims. Rather than manually typing in critical data points from a single claim, software intelligence could automatically capture those data points based on context and insert them into fields for easy storage and searches.
As an example, Mayo Clinic implemented data capture and search solutions software that yielded several positive results. For example, the total number of FTEs needed to process invoices decreased 50 percent while the volume of processed invoices increased significantly.
One critical point to consider when implementing data capture software is choosing a flexible system that is not tied to template or rules. There is also an inherent distrust of automation that should be dissolved among healthcare employees, said Charles Kaplan, vice president of marketing at Brainware.
