The vulnerability — known as a use-after-free vulnerability — allows hackers to execute code on systems after convincing users to download a webpage or an HTML email message. By exploiting the vulnerability, hackers could gain complete access over a user’s computer and possibly all of the information on it, according to a USA Today report.

Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 6 through 11 are affected by the vulnerability, according to the CERT report.

Companies and individuals who use the affected versions of the browser are encouraged to use the mitigation actions provided by Microsoft to address the vulnerability or use an alternate browser, according to the CERT report.
