The report, titled Worldwide DDoS Attacks & Cyber Insights Research Report, includes survey responses from a global pool of 1,010 directors, managers and C-suite executives. Six percent of these respondents were from the healthcare industry.
DDoS attacks have serious consequences for affected organizations, according to the report. Sixty-three percent of all respondents reported an average revenue loss of at least $100,000 per hour following an attack, while 43 percent reported at least $250,000 per hour in revenue loss.
Here are seven insights into how DDoS attacks on healthcare organizations changed between 2016 and 2017, based on industry-specific data Neustar shared with Becker’s Hospital Review via email.
1. Experienced a DDoS attack: 13 percent increase
2. Required at least three hours to detect DDoS: 12 percent increase
3. Required at least three hours to respond to DDoS: 16 percent increase
4. Experienced a malware attack in concert with DDoS: 14 percent increase
5. Experienced a ransomware attack in concert with DDoS: 3 percent increase
6. Experienced a loss in customer confidence after DDoS: 21 percent increase
7. Planning to invest more heavily in DDoS defense: 5 percent increase
