Dartmouth-Hitchcock Names Dr. John Birkmeyer Executive Vice President for Enterprise Support Services

Dartmouth-Hitchcock health system appointed John D. Birkmeyer, MD, to the newly-created position of executive vice president for enterprise support services.

In his new position, Dr. Birkmeyer will work with President and CEO James N. Weinstein, MD, and other senior management team members to create a sustainable health system. He will lead initiatives to align resources across the system and ongoing quality improvement and accessibility efforts.

Dr. Birkmeyer previously served as an endowed chair at the University of Michigan, where he headed the Center for Healthcare Outcomes and Policy. Dr. Birkmeyer also directs the Michigan Value Collaborative and founder and chief science officer of ArborMetrix, a venture capital-funded analytics and services company. Dr. Birkmeyer is a general surgeon and previously served as chief of the section of general surgery at Dartmouth-Hitchcock. He also collaborated with the institution on the Dartmouth Atlas of Healthcare.

Dr. Birkmeyer chairs the expert panel on evidence-based hospital referral for the Leapfrog Group and is a member of its Blue Ribbon panel on hospital safety ratings.
