Four details:
- During the early morning of May 7, an unauthorized party entered a physician’s office and stole an external hard drive housing backup data. The theft was noticed that same day and law enforcement was contacted, according to a notification letter for the incident.
- A review determined that protected health information was stored on the hard drive, such as patient contact information, birthdates and medical information. It is unclear how many people were affected, but the medical group said that parents’ and guardians’ information may have been breached as well.
- In response to the breach, the medical group said it is eliminating external hard drive backups of data to prevent future thefts.
- The medical group recommends that patients monitor their medical billing statements and report any unusual activity.
